Imitating or creating?

This homework for art class is to imitate this painting from a German artist, but also I added my own color to the original ones. To my surprise, my teacher did not think it was disrespectful to the original painter, but it was my own understanding of her art.

First value practice

This is a practice done in class for painting out the values of an object. I did not really like it because my color was not saturated enough and it is different from the original still life sample. So I learned from it and practiced in other works, and I improved a lot.

My favourite work

This avocado painted with water color is my final project of my 10th grade schoolyear, it contains all the skills I learned and all the experience from the mistakes I've made. It might not be perfect, but it is my favourite one.

3 peppers that are exactly the same

It might seem like there is only one pepper here, but there are actually three. Each of them were painted from different perspectives, and they all taught me different things. Repeating work does not mean it's useless, it just depends on how you repeat.

buoy

This is my first water color painting at the art class, I picked the buoy from many of the samples because I like the bright color of them, and their shapes are easy so it's easy to paint them as a beginner.

Catography--Map of Israel

This is a bible class homework, it gave me a clear view of how the Israelites traveled in the past. My art teacher thought it was so delicate that she even out it in the art show!

Hope for a day without masks

People in Wuhan were having a hard time during the beginning of the pandemic, and the cherry blossom in the painting is the sign of this city. The mask in the front symbolizes our hope of breathe freely one day.

My first try of acrylic

This seemingly simple painting actually means a LOT to me! I was in sixth grade when I did it, and then I suddenly found out that I have great interest in Acrylic painting, and I would like to do more of it.

Flower in a glass vase

I painted this as an art class assignment. I was not satisfied with it at first because I did not like the transparent effect on the glass vase. However, my art teacher commented "the color of it looks like something that makes people happy." After hearing this, I started to change my view of this painting and the purpose of doing art. I learned that art is for happiness but not perfection.

For my dearest Grandparents

I painted this when my grandparents moved into my city. They lived in an apartment with white walls and light color furnitures, and I thought something small with bright color would match their room really well. They were happy to receive this gift.

An exploration!

I painted this when I wondered what "gradient" was in my digital painting app. I started this painting by making it black and white, then I chose a color for the gradient. It turned out to look good! I discovered that gradient applies the chosen color to parts of the picture with similar brightness.

Imitation, not creation

If you have read "imitation or creation?" above, I would tell you for sure that this is not a creation. I painted this when I was very young, at that time I did not know the concept of creativity, and I basically copied the whole cover of my geography textbook. Of course, I did not like it when I finished, but looking back, this might be the first time I realized that what I have been wanting is not just a perfect copy.

Hope away from home

This painting was for an art contest held by UN for the refugees who lost their home. I painted this because I hoped the refugees could rebuild happiness and prosperity on the damage caused by war. No matter it was physical or mental damage, I wished there could be hope and happiness for everyone.

Watch the ball bounce!

This is my second try of making GIFs. Comparing to the first one, I added some more complicated elements. Not only did I need to draw the action of the cat, but I also need to make sure the ball is bouncing like it's supposed to. In order to make it more realistic, I added the change of shape to make the ball look more bouncy.

I made a little animation of my character CAT. After doing this, I felt very impressed by the people who make animated movies. It really requires a lot of patience to do this, I spent one whole hour just to draw one second of it! Those who make 2-hour long movies must be very passionate about art and love their jobs.

Hi, it's me!

This was my second time making animation for CAT, and it was really successful. After having two experiences of making animation, I improved my skill and my understanding of CAT as a character. I wanted to shape CAT's characteristics by putting in more active movements, bright color and shadow. It turned out good!
